Phantasy Star. The grandfather of all other role-playing games. Released in 1987, Phantasy Star revolutionized video games by taking the concept of a classic "tabletop" role-playing game, computerizing it, and letting the gamer step into the shoes of and actually be the hero, instead of just following along on his adventures. Despite it's age, Phantasy Star is still a fine game, and even features 3-D first person dungeons.
